Cubs and Diamondbacks Discussing Miguel Montero

It’s rather obvious that the Chicago Cubs are serious about contending in 2015 and beyond. Fresh off signing Jason Hammel, the team appears to be nearing a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks for All-Star catcher Miguel Montero.

Montero hit just .243 this past season, but his stellar defensive ability earned him an All-Star appearance. Montero’s best season at the plate came in 2012 when he hit over .280 with 15 homers and 88 RBI,

Not only would Montero be seen as an upgrade as it relates to handling the Cubs’ pitching staff, he’d still be an upgrade at the plate. Welington Castillo hit .237 last season, but he struck out over 100 times and posted an on-base percentage of just .298.

The Diamondbacks would likely get pitching prospects back if this deal were to go through.
