Cowboys ‘optimistic’ Ezekiel Elliott will not hold out of training camp

The Dallas Cowboys are under the impression that star running back Ezekiel Elliott will travel with them to training camp, rather than hold out.

Elliott, who recently left the country for a vacation, has reportedly been considering a holdout as he and the Cowboys try and work out a long-term deal.

However, Jason Garrett told reporters Wednesday he anticipates Elliott will travel with the team to Oxnard, California on Thursday: “Yeah, we anticipate that. I’ve heard nothing different on that,” Garrett said, per the team’s website.

Adding to this, Jane Slater of NFL Network said Wednesday that the Cowboys are “optimistic” that Elliott will be with them to open camp.

Meanwhile, fellow running back Melvin Gordon did not report to Los Angeles Chargers training camp amid his own contract dispute.

So it appears we’re seeing two completely different tactics playing out for two of the NFL’s top running backs. It’s going to be fascinating to see which one ends up feeling better about things in the long run.
