Colorado football player claims team could have gone undefeated if not for selfish play of others

Just hours after Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes fell to 4-7 after losing 56-14, their largest margin of defeat yet, one of the team’s football players went online to criticize his teammates’ selfish play.

Specifically, it was sixth-year senior running back Kavosiey Smoke, who’s in his first season with Colorado after spending the previous five with Kentucky. Once the game was finished, Smoke took to social media, saying the Buffaloes’ season could be going much differently if they weren’t playing selfishly.

Then, since Smoke’s post gained more attention than he maybe wanted, he quickly walked back his comments while trying to insinuate there was nothing to his remarks.

Smoke has just two rushing attempts this season, for a total of negative two yards. Prior to this season, he had a total of 1,581 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 294 carries across five seasons with the Wildcats.

There’s no indication of what Smoke means by Colorado playing selfish ball, but it’s safe to say this outcome is not what he envisioned when he transferred to the Buffaloes prior to this season. Not to mention, Coach Prime and the rest of Smoke’s teammates likely won’t like reading about his comments either, leading to a few awkward moments in the locker room. Yet, as they say, winning cures everything, and the Buffaloes just haven’t done enough of that this year.

Now ineligible to reach a bowl game, Colorado’s final regular season matchup comes next Saturday on Nov. 25, when they face a ranked Utah team also looking to close out their year on a high note.
