Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson agreed to an eight-year contract extension, the team announced Saturday morning.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the Canucks, however multiple media outlets reported the contract is worth $92.8 million.

Pettersson, 25, is playing in the final season of a three-year, $22.05 million contract he signed on Oct. 3, 2021. He would have been a restricted free agent this summer.

“This is a very important signing for the Vancouver Canucks,” general manager Patrik Allvin said in a statement. “Elias is one of the top players in the National Hockey League and is a key member of our leadership group. We know his best days are ahead of him and with his high end skill and desire to be the best, we look forward to seeing Elias succeed and grow.”

Pettersson has recorded 75 points (29 goals, 46 assists) and an NHL-leading nine game-winning goals in 62 games this season. His totals come one campaign after posting career highs in goals (39), assists (63) and points (102).

The Calder Memorial Trophy recipient as the rookie of the year in 2018-19, Pettersson has posted 398 points (165 goals, 233 assists) in 387 career games. The Swede was selected by the Canucks with the fifth overall pick of the 2017 NHL Draft.

The Canucks lead the Western Conference with 83 points entering play Saturday.
