Former New York Mets general manager Brodie Van Wagenen was named Chief Operating Officer at Roc Nation Sports on Wednesday, making a return to player representation.

Van Wagenen, 46, was fired by the Mets in November as part of the sweeping changes made when Steve Cohen bought the team from the Wilpon family. Van Wagenen was a player agent for CAA Baseball prior to joining the Mets in October 2018.

Van Wagenen will report to founder/owner Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and president Juan Perez. He starts Feb. 1. Van Wagenen is also Head of Strategy and Business Development.

“I’ve always very publicly stated my stance as being a player advocate. I did that as an agent and I did that as a general manager,” Van Wagenen told The New York Post on Wednesday. “My narrative has always been the same: Celebrate the player, give them the resources to succeed, and reward them if they do.”

Said Jay-Z: “Brodie’s knowledge of the business is indisputable and unparalleled. Since we first worked with Brodie, we realized the shared commitment to athletes both on and off the field. He’s always been extended family and now it’s official.”
