Boston Celtics star suffers injury in freak accident, requires stitches

Boston Celtics star wing Jaylen Brown was initially ruled out for Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors with a right finger laceration.

With Boston locked into the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and nothing to play for over the final weekend of the regular season, this didn’t seem to be a big deal. A lot of teams are resting their starters with the playoffs set to get going next Saturday.

That’s until we found out a bit more about the injury Brown suffered. The All-Star told reporters ahead of Friday’s game that he cut his right hand picking up a glass vase he knocked over while watering plants Thursday night. Brown had to get five stitches. “I’m pretty pissed about it,” the Boston Celtics star said.

The good news for the Boston Celtics and their fans? Brown said that he’s only expecting to miss a couple days.

Whether Boston opens up the playoffs on the next Saturday or Sunday, Brown should be more than ready to go.

Despite Boston boasting the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, they’ll head into the NBA Playoffs in the midst of some drama. Said drama involves Brown himself and the wing’s future with the Celtics.

“I don’t know. As long as I’m needed. It’s not up to me. We’ll see how they feel about me over time and I feel about them over time. Hopefully, whatever it is, it makes sense. But I will stay where I’m wanted. I will stay where I’m needed and treated correct.”

Jaylen Brown on his future with the Boston Celtics

Brown had previously called out Celtics fans while also wondering why he was brought up in trade talks surrounding Kevin Durant both last summer and prior to the two-time NBA Finals MVP being dealt to the Phoenix Suns.

Despite the randomness of this injury, Brown will be able to go when the playoffs start. If the defending Eastern Conference champs don’t earn another NBA Finals appearance, a cut on his hand will be the least of Brown’s concerns heading into the summer.
