Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown questions future after trade rumors

The Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown tandem is one of the best dynamic duos in the NBA today. Both Boston Celtics All-Stars can guard multiple positions well while being capable of scoring 30 or more points on any given night.

They’ve played together for six seasons now, helping the Celtics reach the NBA Finals, but Brown, in particular, has been linked to several trade rumors over the years.

He recently spoke a bit about potentially joining a new team in the future, giving credence to the idea of a trade, or signing a contract elsewhere if the fit is right.

Asked by The Ringer‘s Logan Murdock whether he wants to remain with the Celtics long-term, Brown noted the situation is partially out of his hands while leaving the door open for an eventual departure.

“I don’t know. As long as I’m needed. It’s not up to me. We’ll see how they feel about me over time and I feel about them over time. Hopefully, whatever it is, it makes sense. But I will stay where I’m wanted. I will stay where I’m needed and treated correct.”

While the Celtics could someday opt to cash in on Brown, who’s still just 26, by trading the two-time All-Star for another star player, he could also leave as a free agent. Brown’s contract is set to expire after the 2023-24 season, meaning the Celtics could have two more shots at winning an NBA Championship before Brown has the chance to switch teams.

Brown becoming available in any capacity would cause a frenzy, as he’s one of the better two-way players in basketball and is averaging new career highs in scoring, field-goal rate, and rebounds per game. Basically, if the Celtics did decide to shop Brown, they’d be selling high.
