Bobsledder Elana Meyers Taylor will lead the Team USA delegation on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, selected by her fellow U.S. Olympians as the flag bearer.

She also was elected to be one of two flag bearers at the opening ceremony, but a positive COVID-19 test kept her from taking part. Speedskater Brittany Bowe filled in for her.

“I was so honored to be named the Opening Ceremony flag bearer, but after not being able to carry the flag, it’s even more humbling to lead the United States at the Closing Ceremony,” Meyers Taylor, 37, said in a news release. “Congratulations to my fellow Team USA athletes on all their success in Beijing — I’m looking forward to carrying the flag with my teammates by my side and closing out these Games.”

A four-time Olympian, Meyers Taylor won the silver medal in the first-ever Olympic monobob competition on Monday. She will be back in the sled Friday night, U.S. time, for the first two runs of the two-woman bobsled competition.

Meyers Taylor won silver medals at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018 and at Sochi in 2014, adding to the bronze medal she earned at Vancouver in 2010.

Sunday’s closing ceremony will air live on the NBC streaming service Peacock at 7 a.m. ET and a re-broadcast will air on NBC at 8 p.m. ET.
