Bob Huggins demands reinstatement as West Virginia men’s basketball coach, claims he never resigned

Hall of Fame basketball coach Bob Huggins has had a very strange offseason. It all began back in May when the then-West Virginia Mountaineers men’s basketball coach made a series of homophobic remarks during a radio appearance.

Shortly later, reports emerged of Huggins taking a significant pay cut to stay on as coach, but it wouldn’t be long before he’d make headlines again.

In June, Huggins was arrested for a DUI, which was followed by a resignation from his post as the WVU head coach later that night.

Only now, Huggins and his attorneys are suggesting he never actually resigned from the Mountaineers and is demanding reinstatement as the team’s head coach. The shocking development comes from West Virginia Metro News, who was the first to break the story.

Huggins is not seeking litigation but is “looking for the correction of a clear breach of his employment agreement with WVU.”

Meanwhile, the University continues to insist Huggins did resign and are moving forward with their coaching interview process, while claiming the former coach’s claims are “factually inaccurate.”

We’ll continue to monitor the situation as we continue learning more details developing out of West Virginia.
