Toronto Blue Jays All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette left Monday night’s home game against the Baltimore Orioles with what Toronto called right knee discomfort.

In the third inning, Bichette hit a single to right and attempted to make it to second base. He pulled up abruptly as the throw came in and reached for his right knee before he was tagged for the final out of the inning. He limped as he walked off the field.

Santiago Espinal took over at shortstop for Toronto.

Bichette, 25, entered the week with the best batting average in the American League (.318), which improved to .321 after being credited for two hits in two at-bats Monday night. He has played in 106 games and hit 17 home runs, 25 doubles and 59 RBIs for the Blue Jays this season.

Bichette was named an All-Star for the second time of his career earlier this season. He has received AL MVP votes in each of the past two seasons.
