Baker Mayfield’s wife calls out Cleveland Browns after QB skips media session

Baker Mayfield and the Cleveland Browns are coming off an ugly 13-10 home win over the lifeless Detroit Lions on Sunday.

It’s a game that saw the injured Mayfield throw two interceptions while completing just 15-of-29 passes as he deals with and plays through three different injuries.

In surprising fashion, Mayfield did not take part in a mandatroy post-game media session. For their part, the Browns refused to give a reason why the former No. 1 pick skipped the session.

This didn’t stop Mayfield’s wife, Emily, from taking to social media to blast the quarterback’s teammates.

“No one better say anything bad about Baker Mayfield after this game,” she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I don’t think I have seen toughness like this in a while. Maybe the rest our team should take the hint and get tougher.”

That’s not subtle in any way.

The 26-year-old Baker Mayfield is dealing with injuries to his knee, shoulder and foot. He had in the past said that he has never played through so much pain.

“It’s been tough, but I don’t think anybody gives a damn,” Mayfield said ahead of Sunday’s game. “So, there’s no reason to get into that. Nobody cares. Nobody wants to feel bad for us. So, it is what it is. It’s alright.”

Apparently, his wife did not get this memo.

Drama in Cleveland between Baker Mayfield and the Browns?

It was earlier in November that the Browns waived Odell Beckham Jr. after his father took to social media to blast Mayfield. The two obviously didn’t have a great on-field relationship in their two-plus seasons as teammates.

Even then, other Browns players took Mayfield’s side as the spat came to a culmination. There was no rift within the locker room.

Despite Mayfield’s wife deleting the aforementioned social media post, it’s still readily available for his teammates to read. There could be something to this creating more drama in Cleveland as the Browns look to turn a rough 6-5 start to the campaign into a second consecutive playoff appearance.

As for Mayfield, he has not been great over the past month or so. That span has seen the former Oklahoma standout tally four touchdowns against three interceptions in four games. Obviously, a lot of this has to do with the injuries the quarterback is suffering through.

Things will have to get better on this end with Cleveland set to take on the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football Week 12.
