Arian Foster expected to run with first team Friday against Cowboys

This Friday should mark the day fans see running back Arian Foster finally hit the field with the Miami Dolphins.

“Right now I’m pretty sure he’s going to go,” head coach Adam Gase said of Foster, per James Walker of ESPN. “So unless I change my mind for some reason, I want to see him get in there with that first group and get him a feel for how they operate.”

The four-time Pro-Bowl running back was signed by the Dolphins in mid July. Since then, the Dolphins listed second-year back Jay Ajayi as No. 1 on the team’s depth chart.

Unfortunately, Ajayi failed to impress against the New York Giants in his preseason debut. He struggled particularly in the passing game and carried the ball only six yards on two attempts while Foster sat out.

As such, the Dolphins turning to Foster to give him an opportunity to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Friday makes sense. Foster was cut by the Houston Texans during free agency after sustaining an Achilles injury early in the 2015 season.

When healthy, the veteran is one of the best in his class and could probably help the Dolphins in many areas where Ajayi falls short.
