Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards charged with assault after post-game incident

Young guard Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves saw their season come to an end following a narrow loss to the Denver Nuggets in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series Wednesday night.

Edwards and Co. put up a fight after falling down 3-0 in the series. They won at home on Sunday and played the top-seeded Nuggets close in Game 5 before Edwards missed a game-tying three-pointer as time ran out in the fourth quarter.

Someone that always wears his emotions on his sleeves, Edwards ran straight to the locker room after missing the shot. Video evidence shows that the former No. 1 pick threw a chair in the process. Apparently, there were two unintended victims in that of a security guard and another worker inside Denver’s Ball Arena.

According to 104.3 The Fan in Denver, Anthony Edwards has been charged with two counts of third-degree assault following the incident.

“A law enforcement source said Edwards picked up a chair and swung it, striking a security guard in the back. Then the thrown chair also hit a second worker. A source confirmed the incident and said both employees were injured and asked to file charges,” report on Anthony Edwards’ incident and charges.

Per Colorado law, Edwards faces up to 18 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge. They are considered class-1 misdemeanors.

“We are aware of the alleged incident regarding Anthony Edwards following Game 5 in Denver and are in the process of gathering more information. We have no further comment at this moment,” Minnesota Timberwolves statement, via Sportsnaut’s Mark Medina.
