The AAF has played eight weeks of football in its inaugural season, but according to a report that might be all she wrote.
Pro Football Talk reported Tuesday that the league’s “football operations will be suspended in the next few hours, per source with knowledge of situation. League is not folding, yet. But it’s heading that way.”
As that report came out, Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Journal tweeted out that a source told him the league “is folding shortly.”
On Monday, AAF founder Tom Dundon, who is also a minority owner, threatened to shut the league down if no development agreement were established between the AAF and NFL/NFLPA. Yet that was always going to be a longshot.
Despite featuring some enticing talent, and despite getting some decent television ratings this season, the league reportedly is losing out on a ton of money, on top of that.
It sure looks like the league will end up fizzling out before it ever really took off.
