WATCH: Jameis Winston still supporting Tampa Bay community

Jameis Winston Buccaneers career

One of the aspects of NFL free agency and player movement not discussed enough is just how much these individuals are tied to their communities.

It’s something we saw with future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees when he signed with the New Orleans Saints back in 2006. One of his primary reasons for joining the Saints was a willingness to help the New Orleans area rebuild from Hurricane Katrina.

Now a teammate of Mr. Brees in New Orleans, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston is following suit.

Winston is remaining very active within the Tampa community, helping support local businesses and those most impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Days after officially leaving the Buccaneers following an up-and-down five-year career, the former No. 1 overall pick was out and about in Tampa Bay donating 500 meals to the needy. He also made sure to note how important it is to support small businesses during these most difficult of times.

Winston, 26, has received flack for his perceived lack of maturity. It’s one of the reasons he did not land a starting job after Tampa Bay replaced the former Florida State standout with Tom Brady.

Though, he’s showing a lot of maturity in helping those most impacted by the current pandemic in his local region.

Winston, who will ultimately donate 1,000 meals in helping several local restaurants, also noted that he plans to keep his family in Tampa Bay despite signing with the Saints.

Now, that’s how you do it.
