Jameis Winston shares awesome reason he ‘put my ego aside’ and signed with Saints

The New Orleans Saints officially announced Jameis Winston has agreed to sign a one-year contract, and then he shared his reason for doing it.

After inking his new deal to back up Drew Brees in 2020, Winston took to Instagram. Per Greg Auman of The Athletic, Winston said, “That’s like a Harvard education in quarterback school. I wanted to put my ego aside.”

That’s some wisdom right there from the former No. 1 overall pick out of Florida State. It also echoes what Saints assistant general manager Jeff Ireland said a day ago about Winston’s potential to learn if he did sign with New Orleans.

Winston had more than his fair share of struggles in his five years playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, earning a dubious NFL record in the process. Now he’ll have a chance to learn from one of the game’s all-time greats in Drew Brees, who has thrived under the tutelage of offensive mastermind Sean Payton.

In short, signing with the Saints is probably the best thing he could have done.
