Report: Raiders interested in signing Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota, Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders have been connected heavily to some of the top quarterbacks available this offseason. Another name has been added to the list with the front office reportedly interested in signing Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota this offseason.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Raiders are interested in bringing in Mariota as a potential backup to Derek Carr. Mike Mayock ranked Mariota as his top quarterback prospect in the 2015 NFL Draft class and the organization is still reportedly high on the 26-year-old’s upside.

The Raiders have reportedly also targeted Tom Brady, but Garafolo reports that it’s more likely the team signs a reliable backup quarterback to challenge Carr. The team reportedly heavily shopped their starting quarterback during the NFL Combine, but head coach Jon Gruden also publicly threw support behind him.

While Mariota hasn’t lived up to his potential as the No. 2 overall selection in 2015, he’ll still attract plenty of interest this offseason. Multiple NFL teams could see him as a low-risk, high-reward option to bring into camp with the potential for him to still reach his potential.
