Jay Gruden to interview for Jaguars’ OC gig, per report

Jay Gruden

Former Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden is eyeing a return to the NFL in 2020 and is set to interview for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive coordinator gig.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Gruden is headed to Jacksonville to interview for the recent opening after the team parted ways with John DeFilippo.

Gruden, who was fired by Washington in October, told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that he is “itching” to return to the NFL. Of course, he will face some competition to become Jacksonville’s offensive coordinator as the team interviewed another former head coach from the NFC East.

While Gruden posted just a 35-49 record in Washington, he is still respected around the league for his offensive mind. An opportunity to work with Gardner Minshew, Leonard Fournette and D.J. Chark would give him a far better cast of talent to execute his offense than he had in Washington.

If Gruden is unable to land the gig with Jacksonville, he could still explore other opportunities. Perhaps, he could even see if a position opens up on Jon Gruden’s staff in Las Vegas.
