Yankees place Gary Sanchez on 10-day IL with groin strain

Gary Sanchez coronavirus

The New York Yankees have yet another star player on the injured list. All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez is the latest star to land on the list, and he’s out at least 10 days with a groin strain.

The good news is that New York has withstood all other injuries in an astonishing show of resilience all season long. The Yankees have a 10-game lead in the American League East and are tied with the Houston Astros in the win column for the best record in the AL.

Losing Sanchez for any period of time will be tough to overcome, however. He’s been such a clutch hitter for the Bronx Bombers all season long. Though his .229 average is poor, Sanchez has 24 home runs and 58 RBI, and of course he’s the team’s most reliable catcher.

With Sanchez on the mend, New York will have to rely on Austin Romine to pick up the slack. Thankfully, the 30-year-old is a pretty darn good backup and should keep things going strong until Sanchez returns.
