The Golden State Warriors will not look the same as they have in recent years when the 2019-20 season begins, and Stephen Curry appears to be having a tough time with the transition.
On Monday, Curry “liked” a couple of Twitter posts that indicate he’s really struggling to process the way everything has gone down.
The first pointed to the Warriors’ injuries during the NBA Finals, along with the Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala news. The second message Curry “liked” was, “I didn’t sleep last night knowing Iggy got traded!”
Kevin Durant spurned the Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets. That, by itself, was a tough pill to swallow. Even worse for Curry, Durant made his official announcement as Curry was literally on the way to visit him in New York.
Then, the gut punch: Andre Iguodala was shipped to Memphis so the Warriors could create enough cap space to land D’Angelo Russell in a sign-and-trade with Brooklyn.
Iguodala and Curry have been together since the 2012-13 season, winning three titles together, and Iggy had the respect of everyone in the locker room. After news of the trade broke, there were multiple reports from plugged-in insiders that the Warriors were really having a tough time processing the move.
Things aren’t all bad. The Warriors did make an incredibly savvy move to land Russell, who gives them one of the Association’s best 1-2 backcourt combinations with Curry. They are still going to be a playoff team next season, barring some wild happenings in the Western Conference.
All that will sink in eventually.
But for now, Curry and the rest of the tenured Warriors players are understandably reeling.
