Former NBA Rookie of the Year Ben Simmons and the Philadelphia 76ers are closing in on a five-year, $168 million max deal.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the “Sixers and agent Rich Paul are expected to work through the details toward an eventual agreement.”

Simmons appeared in 79 regular-season games for the Sixers this past season, averaging a career-high 16.9 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, along with 7.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 0.8 blocks.

Soon to turn 23, Simmons is certainly one of the brightest young stars in the game today. However, the postseason was a definitive illustration of how his struggles as a shooter limit him in pressure situations.

If the young superstar can develop an outside shot, he’ll become one of the most dangerous all-around players the Association has to offer.
