Mike McCarthy reportedly ’emerging as leading candidate’ for Jets

The New York Jets are reportedly going to be interviewing former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy for their head coaching vacancy. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, that interview is happening on Saturday.

The team is also set to visit with Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Kris Richard, and Baylor head coach Matt Rhule is reportedly being strongly considered as well.

However, of the three, McCarthy is reportedly emerging as a “leading candidate” for this job, according to NFL insider Benjamin Allbright, who also suggested a move could be made soon.

McCarthy checks off some major boxes for a team like the Jets, who are said to be looking for an experienced coach. He’s clearly respected around the league for his offensive mind, and of course he’s had success at the NFL level before with nine playoff appearances and a Super Bowl win under his belt during his tenure in Green Bay.
