Report: Mike McCarthy to interview with Jets

The New York Jets are reportedly set to interview former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, who has yet to take an interview to date as far as anyone knows.

The allure for both parties is pretty obvious.

For McCarthy, if he’s hired he’d be landing with a team that’s talent barren but that has the cash to make some huge moves and become much more competitive in a heartbeat — Le’Veon Bell is one of the players said to be pining for a move to New York.

He’d also be signing on to work with one of the league’s most promising second-year quarterbacks in Sam Darnold, who really showed some progress after he returned from injury.

For the Jets, landing one of the top offensive coaches in the league is obviously on their radar. Darnold needs to be given every possible chance to live up to his potential, and many see McCarthy as a top offensive mind in the league.

During his tenure in Green Bay, McCarthy went 125-77-2 during the regular season. He made the playoffs nine times, earning a 10-8 postseason record that includes a Super Bowl win.
