Diamondbacks announce contract extension for manger Torey Lovullo

Torey Lovullo is entering his third year as manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Apparently, they liked what they’ve seen.

On Tuesday, the Diamondbacks announced that Lovullo has been signed to an extension.

Jon Heyman of Fancred Sports reported that it’s a two-year extension, meaning that Lovullo will be signed through 2021.

In his first two years in Arizona, Lovullo has posted a 175-149 record. The Diamondbacks went 93-69 in 2017 en route to a victory in the National League Wild Card Game. That earned Lovullo the NL Manager of the Year Award that season.

With stalwarts like A.J. Pollock and especially Paul Goldschmidt gone, the next couple of seasons in Arizona could be more focused on rebuilding than competing for the playoffs. But obviously the Diamondbacks have the man they want managing the team.
