Cavs reportedly waive Patrick McCaw one week after signing him

Former Golden State Warriors second-round pick Patrick McCaw lasted all of a week with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After signing McCaw to an offer sheet a week ago Friday, the Cavaliers have reportedly waived the guard.

Shams Charania of The Athletic goes on to report that several contending teams are interested in signing the 23-year-old McCaw should he clear waivers.

The deadline for McCaw’s two-year, $6 million contract to become fully guaranteed is Monday. If a team were to pick him up off waivers, it would take on the remainder of the contract.

Two days after Cleveland signed McCaw to an offer sheet, the defending champion Warriors decided against matching it. Most thought the former UNLV standout figured into the Cavaliers’ long-term plans.

While this might still be the case, this news puts a wrinkle into that thinking. McCaw averaged 1.7 points and shot 22 percent from the field in three games with the Cavaliers.
