Broncos fire offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave

In one of the least shocking pieces of information around the NFL, the Denver Broncos officially fired offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave on Thursday.

This comes after Denver had hired San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello in the same role on Wednesday. Musgrave was never going to stay on the staff under new head coach Vic Fangio.

A coach in the NFL for the past 16 years, Musgrave spent two seasons as the Broncos’ offensive coordinator under then-coach Vance Joseph. Denver ranked in the bottom half of the NFL in scoring each season.

Musgrave, 51, previously served as the OC for the Panthers, Jaguars, Raiders and Vikings — leading only one top-10 scoring offense in the process.

With the 49ers now looking for a new quarterbacks coach to replace Scangarello, we wouldn’t be surprised if Musgrave was bandied about as a candidate. He played in San Francisco as a backup quarterback from 1991-94.
