Browns’ QB coach has funny label for third-stringer Drew Stanton

Veteran quarterback Drew Stanton is behind Tyrod Taylor and Baker Mayfield on the Cleveland Browns’ depth chart. But according to quarterback coach Ken Zampese, he’s also so much more.

That’s an interesting label. This certainly does beg a follow-up question or two. Primarily, how is Stanton “the secret sauce?” We’ve never heard Stanton described that way, or as anything remotely close, in the past.

Stanton is certainly more qualified — or at least more experienced — than the average third-string quarterback. In his career, he’s appeared in 38 games and started 17. Four of those starts came in 2017.

For a team looking to groom a franchise quarterback in Mayfield, putting him around experienced signal callers like Stanton and Taylor is a good thing.
