Report: ‘Tiny whispers floating’ that Larry Fitzgerald may play beyond 2018

It seems likely that Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald might following the 2018 season. But according to recent scuttlebutt, that may not be the case.

Rob McManaman of The Arizona Republic reported that within the organization, there’s a growing feeling that Fitzgerald might be back in 2019.

There have been tiny whispers floating in and around the Cardinals’ organization that maybe, just maybe, Larry Fitzgerald might be considering sticking around a little while longer and perhaps playing a year or two beyond this upcoming season.”

Of course, what happens in 2018 could go a long way in determining that. But it’s worth noting that Fitzgerald has shown no signs of slowing down.

Fitzgerald has exceeded both 100 receptions and 1,000 yards in each of the last three seasons. From 2015-2017, Fitzgerald hauled in a total of 325 receptions for 3,394 yards, adding 21 total touchdown receptions.

The team’s success might say a lot about Fitzgerald’s future, as well. Since reaching the NFC Championship Game in the 2015 season, Arizona has regressed, going 7-8-1 in 2016 and 8-8 in 2017. Fitzgerald has never won a Super Bowl.

So, if he stays healthy, plays well, and the Cardinals show signs of improvement in 2018, it stands to reason that he’d be more likely to come back for at least one more year.
