The college football career of Penn State offensive tackle Nana Asiedu has concluded before it ever had a chance to flourish.

The freshman took to Twitter Wednesday night to announce he’s retiring from football due to a genetic heart condition, graciously thanking the university and his coaches for giving him a chance while maintaining a fabulously positive outlook on the future.

Asiedu has been diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is the same condition that caused Cal defensive lineman Ted Agu to pass away following a workout.

The Nittany Lions will have some work to do in order to fill this void. The 6-foot-5, 265 pound offensive tackle was rated as the No. 98 overall recruit in 2018 on the 247Sports composite board.

Thankfully Penn State is allowing Asiedu to stay on as a scholarship athlete so he can continue to be a part of the team going forward, even if it’s in an off-the-field capacity.
