It’s official. Johnny Manziel’s professional football career has resumed. The former Heisman winner and Cleveland Browns first-round pick announced Saturday morning that he has signed with the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

For a player in Manziel who has not suited up professionally since 2015, this has been a long time coming. Following a disastrous two-year stint in Cleveland, Manziel was jettisoned from the NFL due to multiple off-field issues.
He has since worked to remain sober off the field and get his life in order. This presented Manziel with an opportunity to resume his playing career.

The real kicker for Johnny Manziel is that CFL rules require a two-year contract, so Hamilton actually has his rights not just this season, but the season after as well.
Translation: Johnny Football CANNOT sign w/an NFL team until late in the 2019 NFL season.
