John Fox sticks up for Mitch Trubisky after rough rookie season

John Fox

The first year for Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky marked the last for head coach John Fox, who was fired after three poor seasons in Chicago.

Now departed and looking back at the Bears’ 5-11 record, Fox spoke up in support of Trubisky on Golic and Wingo. He discussed some of the team’s shortcomings outside of the passing game.

Fox said that last year did not deliver a “fair assessment” of Trubisky. He explained that the team ran the ball more which did not give Trubisky enough opportunity to improve his passing game.

Fox notes that the weapons the Bears brought in this year in that of wideout Allen Robinson and a new tight end (Trey Burton) should help Trubisky develop. Now, Fox said it is just a matter of Trubisky “learning Matt Nagy’s new offense.”

He also said with players who can run the ball, it will help Trubisky become more “proficient” in his passing game.

It’s nice to see Fox sticking up for his former quarterback, who hasn’t necessarily done the same in the recent past.

Many who wrote Trubisky off after an uninspiring rookie year should have a bit more faith soaking in all Fox had to say. Coach Nagy worked wonders as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator last year. Also, getting Trubisky more help as far as an upgrade in receivers can only be viewed as a positive.
