Report: Patriots signing WR Jordan Matthews to one-year deal

The New England Patriots added another receiver on Thursday, reportedly set to sign Jordan Matthews — one of our favorite value free agents — to a one-year deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Matthews, 25, was originally a second-round pick out of Vanderbilt, selected by the Philadelphia Eagles. He played three years in Philly, catching 225 passes for 2,673 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Then last year, he was moved to Buffalo in a trade and suffered injuries, resulting in multiple surgeries. Due to the injury-riddled season, he only managed to catch 25 passes for 282 yards and one touchdown, but he’s capable of getting back to top production if his health holds up.

Matthews is a slot specialist who should fit in nicely with New England’s scheme. It’s likely going to be a pretty incentive-laden contract for a guy who has plenty of incentive to prove it.
