Report: Dolphins meeting with Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler isn’t a starting-caliber quarterback, but the Miami Dolphins may be interested in him as a backup to Ryan Tannehill.

According to Craig Mish of SiriusXM Radio, Osweiler is meeting with the franchise Thursday.

The connection makes sense, since Dolphins coach Adam Gase previously served on the Denver Broncos staff. When the team drafted Osweiler in 2012, Gase was the quarterbacks coach or offensive coordinator during the next three seasons.

At this point of Osweiler’s career, the NFL world should understand what he is. The Arizona State product cannot be trusted to lead an offense, as evidenced by unsuccessful stints with the Houston Texans and Broncos over the last two years.

But coaches love familiar faces on the bench, and Osweiler could be an experienced backup in case an emergency arises.
