Antonio Cromartie announces retirement from NFL

Antonio Cromartie spent the entire 2017 season as a free agent, but the former All-Pro cornerback is officially hanging up the cleats.

In a post on Instagram, Cromartie announced his retirement from the league.

The 19th overall pick of the San Diego Chargers in 2006, he played 11 seasons in the NFL and intercepted 31 passes. Cromartie spent four years in San Diego, five total with the New York Jets and made brief stops with both the Arizona Cardinals and Indianapolis Colts, his final team.

Cromartie earned All-Pro honors in 2007, when he picked off 10 passes and collected 49 total tackles. That season, he also locked down a place in history by returning a missed field goal 109 yards — the longest possible distance — for a touchdown.

Beyond the 31 interceptions, Cromatie’s career ends with 417 tackles, 116 pass defenses, six touchdowns and four Pro Bowl nods.
