Amani Toomer compares Jim Harbaugh to Paris Hilton

Today in news you didn’t expect to hear, former Michigan and NFL receiver Amani Toomer compared Jim Harbaugh to Paris Hilton.

During an appearance on 97.1 The Ticket, per CBS Detroit, Toomer criticized Harbaugh for the team’s poor performance against rivals.

“To me, that’s not a supermodel, that’s Paris Hilton. That’s somebody who’s given us nothing — but, ‘Oh, we’re going to Rome. Oh, we wear Michael Jordan shoes.’ I don’t care! I want to beat Michigan State, I want to beat Ohio State. That’s the passion that I have for the program.”

Toomer isn’t wrong in his assessment that Michigan has underperformed against Ohio State and Michigan State. In three seasons, the Wolverines are just 1-5 opposite their annual rivals.

But the souring on Harbaugh after three seasons is pretty ridiculous.

In 2015, he had Michigan in position to defeat a Michigan State team that eventually reached the College Football Playoff. Had punter Blake O’Neill not botched a snap on the final play of the game — which is most decidedly not Harbaugh’s fault — the Wolverines would be 2-1 against MSU.

Michigan still hasn’t defeated Ohio State, and the recent history of the rivalry significantly favors the Buckeyes. Although nobody expected the team to accomplish that in 2015, and the Wolverines wasted an opportunity in 2016. Yes. Absolutely.

And we get it, Michigan alums, players and fans are tired of losing to OSU. The Wolverines must win a game for that frustration to subside.

We can’t predict the future, so maybe this trend doesn’t change. But right now, we’ll stick with leaning toward trusting Harbaugh, whose coaching history suggests everything is going to be fine.
