It was announced on Tuesday that the University of Florida will pay former coach Jim McElwain $7.5 million in a buyout agreement.

The Gators were previously looking into whether McElwain could be fired for cause.
Had Florida reached that conclusion, we could only imagine that it would have triggered a drawn out legal battle between the university and its now former coach. A buyout seems like the best resolution for all parties.
McElwain was fired after the Gators’ blowout loss at the hands of Georgia. At the time of his firing, Florida was 3-4 overall, 3-3 in conference play, and 22-12 overall in his four years. The Gators finished the 2017 season at 4-7, with a 3-5 record in the SEC.
