Georgia Dome to be demolished on Monday morning

Georgia Dome scheduled to be imploded on November 20, 2017

Anyone hoping to get one last look at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta had better hurry. On Monday morning, the former home of the Atlanta Falcons will be no more.

“With its demolition approaching, many are reflecting on the memories left by the Georgia Dome,” Zach Spedden of footballstadiumdigest.com noted. “But with the push of a button at 7:30 a.m. Monday, the Georgia Dome will be imploded, the same fate that befell Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium and the Omni coliseum 20 years earlier.”

The Georgia Dome was the home of the Falcons from 1992-2006, replacing the aforementioned Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.

It also hosted (among other things) Super Bowls XXVIII and XXXIV, which saw the Dallas Cowboys and the then St. Louis Rams claim victories.

College football’s Peach Bowl from 1993-2016 and the SEC Championship Game from 1994-2016 as well as the 1996 Summer Olympics were also held at the venue.
