Former Indianapolis Colts defensive end and current assistant coach Robert Mathis was arrested early Tuesday morning in Hamilton County for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person.

According to a report from a news station in Indiana, the incident itself happened just after midnight on Tuesday.

“The 36-year-old was reported to have been going down the wrong way on a one way street in the area of Bishop Circle and Windemere Boulevard,” the report read. “Mathis was later booked into the Hamilton County Jail around 3:30 a.m.”

Mathis, 36, retired following the 2016 campaign. He spent 14 years with the Colts, racking up 123 sacks en route to earning five trips to the Pro Bowl. Mathis was then hired as an assistant for the Colts this past spring.

“We are aware of the incident involving Robert Mathis last night,” Colts COO Pete Ward said about the incident. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”

It remains to be seen if Mathis will be disciplined by the team.
