Report: Cavaliers still talking with Chauncey Billups about becoming president of basketball operations

Portland Trail Blazers hire Chauncey Billups

Chauncey Billups and the Cleveland Cavaliers remain in discussions about having the former NBA star come on as President of Basketball Operations, reports Adrian Wojnarowski.

Billups was not playing Sunday during the BIG3 debut in New York Sunday, and Ice Cube has previously said the ice cold jump shooter was leaving the 3-on-3 league to join the Cavs. To this point, that has not yet occurred. But given the level of interest between both parties it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Billups didn’t end up replacing David Griffin.

Though, even if Billups does sign on to become the head honcho of Cleveland’s personnel department, one wonders what the future holds for this franchise. It’s been widely reported that it’s only a matter of time before LeBron James leaves for Los Angeles, even if those reports are premature.

Before Griffin was let go, he had been working feverishly to try and land some top talent ahead of the draft. Obviously that didn’t happen, and it’s been reported Paul George won’t be joining James and Co. in Cleveland.

It’s weird to say it, but the Cavaliers are entering some potentially rough waters after making it to the NBA Finals three straight years. No doubt, whoever ends up landing the vacant job Billups is in talks to fill will have their hands full.
