Cubs dominate MLB jersey sales after World Series title

Javier Baez

The lovable loser nickname that came to define the Chicago Cubs for over a century can now be completely thrown out the window. Fresh off their first World Series title in 108 years, the Cubs remain top contenders once again in 2017.

And it now looks like fans all around the world are taking note. According to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, four members of the Cubs are in the top-five of MLB-wide jersey sales

The totals, tabulated since Chicago won the title this past November, have Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo first and second respectively. They are followed in the top five by Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw at three and fellow teammates Javier Baez and Kyle Schwarber rounding out the top five.

This shouldn’t be a surprise considering just how successful the Cubs have been in the recent past. Though, the idea that both Bryce Harper and Mike Trout are not in the top five is rather surprising. We then have to look at the San Francisco Giants and New York Yankees, both in large markets, not fielding a player within the top five either.

When looking a bit further down in the top 10, Giants catcher Buster Posey and Gary Sanchez of the Yankees both finished ahead of Mike Trout in jersey sales. Now, that’s rather interesting.
