Kelechi Osemele had kidney stones, expected to play in Week 15

Kidney stones are a painful thing that can lay low even the greatest of men. Take, for example, Oakland Raiders All-Pro offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele, who was waylaid by kidney stones that forced him to miss a key start against the Kansas City Chiefs in week 14, per Paul Guttierez of ESPN.

Calling it the most painful thing he’s endured in his life, Osemele broke the news this Tuesday.

“It started around 2 in the morning,” Osemele said. “It’s pretty painful (stuff). I wouldn’t wish that on anybody.”

After trying to sleep off the grueling pain Wednesday night before the game, Osemele was examined by team doctors and then sent to the local hospital for treatment.

“It was 5 millimeters, so I passed it naturally,” he said. “It kind of felt like razor blades, you know?”

Osemele was a late scratch from the game obviously, and Oakland struggled in his absence.

The fifth-year pro out of Iowa State was a massive free agent signing in this offseason by Oakland and has been a key piece in the Raiders long-awaited resurgence. Osemele stated that he feels healthy as the week progresses and fully expects to play this upcoming Sunday in a key matchup against the divisional rival San Diego Chargers.
