Marijuana dispensary wants naming rights to Broncos stadium

The Denver Broncos have an opportunity to pretty much own the world of ironic humor. Existing in only one of two states where football is both played and marijuana is legal for recreational use, the Broncos current venue is named Invesco Field at Mile High.

Okay, now consider this. As CBS Sports points out, Invesco has filed for bankruptcy — meaning that the company’s 25-year naming rights agreement with the team will have to end.

At least one local marijuana dispensary in Denver wants the naming rights to the venue. Native Roots announced on Friday (no not an April Fools’ joke) that it’s seeking the naming rights for Mile High Stadium.

“It’s not a joke, we’re very serious,” founding partner Rhett Jordan said, CBS Denver. ““We’ve always been huge fans of the Broncos, we felt like this was a great opportunity to bring two brilliant brands together.”

Not that the Broncos would come close to agreeing to the marijuana distributor taking over the naming rights of their stadium. Though, if played out, this would be one hilarious situation.

First off, we already know the NFL’s archaic policy on marijuana — a policy that has left multiple players suspended for an entire season after positive tests involving the drug.

Secondly, a venue located at Mile High being named after a marijuana dispensary? The jokes kinda right themselves.

“You know how high I am, man? A Mile High.”

Okay, we will stop there.
