Report: Andre Johnson finished with Colts

After signing a three-year, $21 million deal in 2015, wide receiver Andre Johnson is reportedly finished with the Indianapolis Colts, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.

Johnson’s decision is likely due to a severe decline in production and usage in 2015. The veteran saw only 77 targets, resulting in 41 catches for 503 yards and four touchdowns.

During his final season in Houston, Johnson tallied 146 targets, 85 receptions, 936 yards and three scores. He left the Texans after 12 seasons when they indicated Johnson would have a lighter workload moving forward.

Johnson arrived to the Colts and was initially considered integral part of the receiving corps. However, with many younger receiving mouths to be fed, Johnson became more of an afterthought. Andrew Luck’s unfortunate injury situation surely didn’t help Johnson, either.

Should the Colts cut Johnson, they would have to eat $7.5 million in salary cap. At 34 years old, Johnson’s window of opportunity to play for a Super Bowl is closing quickly.

If a championship isn’t in the cards, Johnson will eventually retire as a seven-time Pro-Bowler and two-time All-Pro. He also achieved franchise records in Houston with 1,012 catches, 13,597 receiving yards and 64 touchdowns.
