Jason Pierre-Paul Has Been Discharged From Hospital After Finger Amputation

Jason Pierre-Paul has taken the first of many big steps towards recovery.

The New York Giants defensive end has been discharged from Jackson Memorial Hospital after having his right index finger amputated due to an unfortunate fireworks accident on the 4th of July.

The news was first reported by Kimberly Jones of NFL Network:

The road to recovery will be arduous, but this is a good sign his hand is healing as it should.

This is excellent news for Pierre-Paul, who suffered the injury at the most inopportune time as it concerns his financial standing. The pass-rusher is currently without a contract after the Giants withdrew a five-year deal worth a reported $60 million after the incident.

The Giants are expected to leave the $14.8 million franchise tender on the table for Pierre-Paul, who has said he will not sign it until he’s medically cleared to play. If he does end up missing games, then the Giants are protected against paying his salary for any weeks he’s absent.
