49ers’ Frank Gore Sad and Dejected After Loss to Raiders

San Francisco 49ers’ workhorse running back Frank Gore seems to be more of an afterthought these days. In an offense that is severely struggling and losing games left and right, Gore continues to see his carries and involvement with the team diminishing week after week.

After Sunday’s loss to the Oakland Raiders of all teams, Gore shared these sad comments about his lack of involvement (via San Francisco Chronicle).

It’s tough. It’s my last year under contract. I want to go out with a shot at least to hold the trophy. We’ll let the chips fall. I’ll still keep fighting with my teammates. Hopefully, other teams will help us. We have to move forward from this one. But it’s tough.

The San Francisco 49ers currently sit a 7-6. And with how well their rival Seattle Seahawks have been playing, Gore and the 49ers will need a small miracle to have any shot at earning playoff status.

Gore did manage 5.3 yards per carry against the Raiders, however, he was only given 12 opportunities to run the ball. Further commenting on yesterday’s game, Gore had this to add.

The coaches are the ones calling the plays. Whatever the coach calls, I’m going to give 110 percent. I’m only a player; I only do what my coach says. You’ve got to ask the coach.

Coach Jim Harbaugh didn’t offer much help and was about as informative as a mime when he was asked about why the running game has been all but abandoned.

Why we didn’t get the ball to Frank Gore more? Yeah.

That certainly didn’t answer anything. And with what could possibly be Gore’s last season in the NFL, it is truly disappointing to to watch his role vanish in front of our eyes while the 49ers just keep calling plays that simply are not working.

Things definitely won’t be any easier in Week 15 when the 49ers travel to Seattle where the Seahawks will do their best to put the screws to the 49ers once again. Despite fighting an uphill battle while feeling underutilized and dejected, Gore’s work ethic remains top-notch for which he should be commended greatly.
