Former Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is reportedly interested in potential job openings at Florida and Michigan.
Clint Brewster of 247Sports.com is indicating Shanahan may be looking at returning to where it all started.
Sources close to the situation have told Wolverine247 that former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan would be interested in returning to college football for either the Wolverines or Florida Gators job if they were to open.
Shanahan has college experience early in his career. He’s coached at Florida as an offensive assistant from 1980-1983 and also made stops at the University of Minnesota, and Oklahoma. He was most recently the head coach of the Washington Redskins and the Denver Broncos.
Considering how each team has performed this season, it wouldn’t be surprised for the historically good programs to have head-coaching openings when the 2014 season draws to a close.
Jim Harbaugh is the biggest name that has been linked to Michigan in recent months, but that seems like a bit of a pipe dream. With that said, the program will likely look for a big-name head coach to replace Brady Hoke.
As it relates to Florida, there is little doubt that Will Muschamp is on his way out. Going through one of the toughest stretches in program history, the Gators are 4-3 heading into Saturday’s matchup with Vanderbilt and have put up a 7-12 record since the start of last season.
It remains to be seen if either program would show interest in a veteran NFL coach who has not seen the college ranks in over 30 years.
