Report: Derrick Rose Didn’t Help Recruit Carmelo Anthony

All the reports out of Chicago earlier this week were that Derrick Rose was a part of the Chicago Bulls’ pitch to free agent forward Carmelo Anthony. Now that Anthony has finished his tour of potential destinations, a report has surfaced that Rose didn’t actually help pitch the Bulls to him.

According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, Rose and Anthony meeting up was more of a coincidence than anything else.

Rose, Chicago’s star point guard, just happened to be in the middle of his daily workout routine when Bulls officials brought Anthony into the United Center on Tuesday afternoon, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Rose actually was surprised to see Anthony, one source said. He had no idea what time the Knicks’ free agent would be visiting the Bulls.

It remains to be seen whether this will impact Anthony’s decision, but every team that he has met with pulled out all the stops to recruit him. If Rose isn’t on board with Anthony coming to Chicago, it will impact his decision in the end.

Either way, it’s still highly likely that Anthony returns to the Knicks, who he has stayed in contact with throughout this entire process.
