Lakers Hire Byron Scott as Head Coach

In a less-than-surprising move, the Los Angeles Lakers have hired Byron Scott to be their new head coach. As the only remaining NBA team without a coach, the Lakers were facing scrutiny to get something done. With Scott now on board, they can move on to their offseason program and start to implement his philosophy on the court.

Scott last coached with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2012-2013, but was fired after a disastrous season. His best stint as a head coach came with the then New Jersey Nets from 2000-2004, when he led them to two consecutive Eastern Conference finals.

Scott played 11 seasons with the Lakers, winning a total of three NBA championships in the process. He was the NBA Coach of the Year with the then New Orleans Hornets back in 2007-2008.

The deal is said to be worth $17 million over four seasons.
