Final Game at Candlestick Produces Familiar Hero

Some of the best players in San Francisco 49ers history took the field for the final time at Candlestick Park, which is set to be destroyed at some point in the not-so-distante future. As one of the iconic venues in the NFL, Candlestick still means a whole heck of a lot to those who suited up for the 49ers.

Among those in attendance for this flag football game on Saturday night were 49ers’ greats Joe Montana, Steve Young, Roger Craig, Jerry Rice and Dwight Clark. The likes of Dan Marino, Tim Brown and Isaac Bruce represented the NFL All-Stars in the matchup.

In the end, the 49ers legends took this game 45-40. Montana hit former owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. on a two-yard touchdown pass as time expired in the final quarter. It was the ultimate ending. An ending no one could have scripted.

A crowd of over 30,000 were treated to one final experience at Candlestick and one final magic moment from Montana.

Here are some pretty awesome photos and videos from the evening.

In the end, Montana had this to say about closing down Candlestick in style.

A great old stadium…There are a lot of great memories here.

Yes there were, Joe. Yes there were.
