Ultra enigmatic Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant doesn’t appear to be too happy with the extension that teammate Tyron Smith received on Wednesday. Smith, one of the best left tackles in the NFL, received a huge eight-year, $98 million extension and now is under contract for a grand total of $110 million over 10 years.
The extension made sense for both sides. Dallas locked up one of the best overall offensive linemen in the NFL at a young age. And Smith earned $10 million to sign as well as $40 million in guaranteed money.
So why is Bryant visibly unhappy about the extension? The talented wide receiver is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is set to make only $1.8 million this season. Smith’s extension likely indicates that the Cowboys won’t be able to offer the $12 million per season that Bryant is said to be asking for.
Greg Simmons, who is an anchor for KSAT 12 Sports in San Antonio, had a first-hand view of Bryant’s discontent at the Cowboys training camp facility in Oxnard, California, on Wednesday afternoon.

Bryant has tallied 195 receptions for over 2,600 yards and 25 touchdowns over the course of the last two seasons. He is, however, viewed as a malcontent within the Cowboys front office. That might be playing a role in Jerry Jones and Co. refusing to dole out big bucks on a long-term contract.
In reality, Bryant might be the latest case of the NFL telling diva wide receivers that they are a thing of the past.
